The bigger importance of renewable energy is desperately needed

Renewable energy is becoming popular topic these days, especially as world looks to be trying to make our planet more green in order to protect it from ever increasing climate change impact. One of the solutions on how to fight against climate change is definitely in using more renewable energy sector. Renewable energy sector, with the proper development can contribute to significant decrease in greenhouse gas emissions and help tackle climate change problem. The basic principle is quite simple, the more renewables we use the less fossil fuels we need, and with less burning of fossil fuels there will be less harmful greenhouse gas emissions.

Despite the significant growth in certain renewable energy sectors, overall condition isn't showing signs of improvement, and world still heavily relies on fossil fuels (coal, oil, and natural gas) in order to satisfy its energy demand. Wind and solar energy projects are becoming increasingly popular coal still heavily dominates world's energy market, mostly because coal still remains the cheapest fuel, and this is something even developed world finds though to resist, whether alone poor countries of the developing world.

There is also one factor that needs to be mentioned here, namely that fossil fuels lobbies are extremely powerful, and since politics is controlled by industry, they use politicians to get their goals. Oil, natural, gas, coal, these are all huge industries, with huge money involved, and last thing these lobbies want is to lose their privileges, and their dominant position in society.

The biggest problem with many renewable energy sectors is that they are still not cost effective compared to fossil fuels, and some renewables have some serious efficiency problems. Higher efficiency, and cost-competitiveness are certainly two major factors that renewables need to work on before becoming decent opponents to dominant fossil fuels.
